What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on technique focused on relaxation, tension, and the nervous system. The practice developed from the work of osteopathic physician Dr. William Garner Sutherland, who explored the effects of subtle movement and gentle pressure applied to the cranial bones.

Craniosacral practitioners describe a subtle rhythm that can be assessed throughout the head, spine, and body. Using very light touch, the practitioner works with areas of tension and restriction, particularly around the head, neck, shoulders, and spine.

CST is a deeply relaxing modality that can be incorporated into an Integrative Bodywork session alongside massage and other techniques or used as the primary focus of a session. Craniosacral work can be performed entirely clothed and uses gentle touch to create a comfortable, calming environment.

Craniosacral Therapy may be a good option for clients who prefer a gentler approach to bodywork or find more intensive manual techniques uncomfortable.

What to Expect During a Craniosacral Session

CST is blended directly into your Integrated Bodywork session based on the areas of tension assess by your practitioner. CST work can be completed as its own stand alone-session over the clothes or can be combined with FSM, massage, and other modalities.

CST work is extremely light, in contrast to deep-tissue work, to engage with the tissues and gently encourage the restrictions to let go.

All of our sessions are customized to your needs- we do not follow any CST protocols that can impose harshly on the system.

Integrated with Bodywork

CST is used in conjunction with other modalities to address your problems on a deeper level.
