Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) is a gentle, non-invasive modality that uses specific frequencies along with very low levels of electrical current—typically around 50–150 microamps—to support the body’s natural recovery processes.

Research on microcurrent therapy has shown increases in cellular energy (ATP) production and protein synthesis. Additional studies suggest microcurrent may help reduce delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) following exercise and support faster recovery.

When muscles stay chronically tight, maintaining that tension requires energy. FSM can be used alongside hands-on bodywork to help reduce persistent tension, promote relaxation, and support nervous system regulation. FSM can benefit acute injuries, muscle tension, and certain aspects of chronic pain.

Experience FSM as part of an Integrated Bodywork session. Book your session below.

What is Frequency Specific Microcurrent? (FSM)

What to Expect During an FSM Session

  • Clients typically have warm, damp towels wrapped around the part of the body we are treating, typically a wet towel around the neck and on the lower stomach. During the session you will feel very little sensation from the microcurrent, some clients experience a slight “prickliness” that can be adjusted if needed. The amount of current used is extremely low—typically less than 150 microamps.

Clients report feeling a deep state of relaxation and sometimes notice tight muscles relax and ease up in targeted areas.

  • How should I prepare for an FSM session?

Drink 8 ounces of water about 1 hour prior to the session (hopefully you’re drinking water already!), and prepare for a wet towel to be wrapped around the treatment areas, potentially the neck/abdomen. A tank top/spare shirt may be helpful.

FSM is incorporated directly into your Integrative Bodywork session based on your goals and areas of tension. Comfortable, warm towels are placed on the body while specific frequency combinations are selected throughout the session.

The current is extremely gentle and is often not felt at all. While FSM is running, your therapist can incorporate massage, craniosacral therapy, cupping, or other hands-on techniques as appropriate.

Sessions are customized to you—there is no one-size-fits-all FSM protocol.

Integrated with Bodywork

FSM works particularly well alongside massage and other hands-on techniques. Addressing muscular tension manually while incorporating microcurrent allows us to approach the same area in multiple ways during one session.
